Soothing My Sinus Issues The Natural Way

*First and foremost - I just want to mention that I am not a doctor and I recommend discussing this with your doctor to make sure this is safe for use. Also, these products have not been evaluated by the FDA, and not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.*

My body doesn't really like antibiotics. It literally is allergic to most of the antibiotic families now. In fact, my body is just really sensitive altogether. It doesn't like synthetic medication very much. It doesn't like prescription medications very much... although some have been very useful and helpful to it... the majority have not. With that being said, I've had to research and learn new ways to heal my body throughout my life. Since my mother's side of the family originate from Amish & Mennonite backgrounds and my father's side of the family originate from Native American lineage... I grew up drinking tinctures and using salves whenever I was sick or had "boo-boos." I know the powers of herbs for medicine, because I grew up using them with much success.

Recently, I have been dealing with HORRIBLE sinus issues. I'm pretty sure I had an infection with the symptoms I was experiencing as well with the "gunk" that was occurring. I didn't want to take antibiotics for it if I didn't have to (and I don't believe we always have to - only for emergency situations)... so I pulled out my bottle of Thieves Oil and decided to make some of my own medicine using clear vegetable capsules.

BeautyMindSpirit - My Thieves Oil Capsule Recipe for Sinus Issues

Thieves oil is a blended oil from Young Living that contains clove bud oil, lemon peel oil, cinnamon bark oil, eucalyptus leaf oil, and rosemary leaf oil. It's a potent blend of some of the most powerful immune-boosting plants and it helps me tremendously whenever I feel like I'm fighting off an infection, or dealing with uncomfortable acid reflux. There are so many uses for Thieves oil... you can use it to clean and disinfect your home, help soothe a sore throat (1-2 drops on tongue - careful it's spicy and hot!), use it to diffuse in the air to purify your home, etc. I highly suggest doing some more research if you're curious about more uses and benefits.

Making these capsules is a super easy task. I purchased the clear vegetable capsules and Thieves oil through Young Living. I found the ear droppers at Walgreens near the pharmacy (super cheap!), and use whatever olive oil you have on hand at home.

Here is my Thieves Oil Capsule Recipe:
With one designated dropper for Thieves oil, place 3-4 drops Thieves oil inside of capsule, use other designated dropper for olive oil to fill the rest up with olive oil.
I will take this capsule once a day or twice a day for minor issues... and up to 3 times a day for more severe issues. I pay attention to my body and I can usually learn and tell when it needs me to take it. Adjust accordingly to your own. If you taste too much of the Thieves afterwards... reduce drops to 1-2 drops per capsule.

BeautyMindSpirit - NutriBiotic Grapefruit Seed Extract & Healing My Sinus Issues

Because I was battling with something a bit more intense, I needed some extra help in my immune system department. My friend and soul sister, Andrea, told me to pick up some Grapefruit Seed Extract manufactured by a company called NutriBiotic. This is a vegan and vegetarian formula.Grapefruit Seed Extract has high amounts of disease-fighting, free-radical eliminating antioxidants and phytonutrients called bioflavonoids. It's also been associated with and potentially help with these ares:
  • Powerful natural antiseptic.
  • Antiviral and anti-fungal agent.
  • Possible anti-cancer properties.
  • Promotes the healing of wounds and scar tissue.
  • Possible cholesterol-lowering properties
  • Excellent remedy for toenail fungal infections.
  • Treatment for sinus, vaginal and topical skin infections.
  • Evironmentally-friendly fruit and vegetable wash for removing toxins.
  • Effective preventative for Candida and other forms of yeast infection.

I started to feel better a day after taking this, as long as I maintained drinking it 1-2 times a day for a few more days. For adults, drop 10 drops into any liquid (I love using it in lemon water).

And there you go. I am starting to feel a lot better and my symptoms are subsiding.

You may also want to use an air purifier in conjunction with this and eat locally sourced honey - organic and pure. The honey may also help your body adjust to any sort of pollen or outdoor allergens. <3

Bisexuality, My Coming Out Story & Advice for All

I filmed this a couple weeks ago and found it befitting and important to upload this video today - the day that the Supreme Court ruled in favor for same-sex marriage across the United States.

This is my story, my experiences... my views on religions... and my advice to those of you who are going through this similar journey and for those of you who do not understand those of us who are different from you.

I hope this video helps bring some light and support to all of you. I hope at the end of the day we can come together on the things we CAN relate and agree on... and that we build a better, more supportive collective that makes us stronger because we are all different. My heart goes out to you.

I end this with the final paragraph from today's Supreme Court ruling:

"No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right. The judgement of the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit is reversed. It is so ordered."

Mini Haul | ColourPop Highlighters & Eyeshadows

BeautyMindSpirit Colourpop Highlighters and Eyeshadows Haul
So I'm kind of addicted to this company and their amazing products. The fact that they are cruelty free makes it that much easier to get behind this company and support what they make. Once they launched their range of highlighters a while back, I knew I needed to give them a try - since the formulas of their eyeshadows make me so stinkin' happy.

ColourPop Mini Haul - Highlighters and Eyeshadows - BeautyMindSpirit

For highlighters, I purchased Wisp, Teasecake, and Monster.

Wisp is this beautiful golden goddess shade that give so much punch to its color. You are going to have to watch how much you use, because it's very pigmented and very easy to WANT to overdo it. The color simply captures you, holds your eyes hostage, and then bombards you with compliments from strangers all day long.

Teasecake is a beautiful pinkish highlight that would look great over blush... or for medium skin tones, great on the high points of those delicious cheekbones. I'm not sure if this would be too light for darker skin tones, but I'm pretty sure it will look good on them as well.

Monster is this iridescent white/pink highlight shade. It's gorgeous and I highly recommend it for the lighter/fair toned skin types out there. If you have porcelain kind of skin... this is your soul mate, babe.

Colourpop Eyeshadows (L to R): Lovely, Flipper, Mooning, Birthday Girl
For eyeshadows, I purchased Lovely, Flipper, Mooning, and received Birthday Girl for free during their special.

Lovely is a beautiful light golden shade... with some champagne tones. Flipper is a shimmery peach shade with flecks of light golden glitter. Mooning is such a dark chocolate shade that has warmth to it with gold and peach or orange shades... perhaps a touch of red undertones as well. It's flattering... and I plan on wearing this as a single color on my eyelids.
